Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 25, 2026

At BackupKit ("we", "us", or "our"), we prioritize your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our website https://backupkit.io and our services.

By using our website or services, you consent to the practices described in this policy.

1. Your Backup Data — What We Never See

BackupKit is a local-first backup tool. The following never reach our servers:

  • The files you back up — ever, in any form
  • Your encryption passwords and the keys derived from them
  • Your storage credentials (S3 keys, OAuth tokens for Google Drive/Dropbox/OneDrive, FTP/SFTP passwords, etc.)
  • The contents of your backup destinations

Backups are processed locally on your device and uploaded directly to the storage destination you configure. Encryption happens client-side before upload using your chosen password; we have no technical means to access, decrypt, or recover your backups. If you lose your encryption password, your backups become permanently unrecoverable — we cannot help.

The BackupKit desktop application does not transmit usage telemetry or analytics to us. Optional bug reports are sent only when you explicitly submit them, and you can review what's included before sending.

2. Website Information We Collect

From our website and purchase flow we collect the following limited information:

Personal Information

  • Email address (for license delivery and receipts)
  • Name and billing details (when you make a purchase, collected and processed by Stripe — we never see your card number)
  • Any message you choose to send via our contact, support, or refund forms

Technical Data

  • IP addresses
  • Browser type and version
  • Usage data and analytics

3. How We Use Your Information

We use collected information for the following purposes:

To provide and maintain our service
To improve user experience
To process transactions
To communicate with users
To prevent fraud and abuse
For compliance with legal obligations
