Backup Storage Estimator

How much space will your backups actually take? It depends on how much data you protect, how well it compresses, and how many versions you keep. Estimate it here, then see what that would cost on cheap cloud storage.

A rough model. Real backup size depends on your exact files and how they change. This assumes a full compressed copy for the first version and an incremental-style share for later ones; without deduplication (BackupKit keeps full versioned archives), choose “full copy each run” for the safe upper bound.

How to think about retention

More versions means more recovery points — and more storage. A common balance is keeping 2–4 weeks of daily versions plus a few monthly ones. BackupKit lets you set retention by age (keep 30 days) or by count (keep the last 10 versions), so you can tune the storage/safety trade-off per job.
